Flight Arrivals at Sacramento Airport

When arriving at Sacramento International Airport (SMF), please make sure to collect your entire luggage before proceeding to exit the baggage claim area.

Below you can find some general good-to-know information about the airport.

Transfers at Sacramento Airport

Shuttle between Terminal A and B – the daily parking shuttle leaves every 10 minutes from the ground transportation areas of both terminals. All parking shuttles going from Terminal A stops next at Terminal B.

Rental Cars – The rental car companies at Sacramento Airport are all located in the rental car terminal reached through the shuttles that operate between the flight terminals and the rental car facility every 10 minutes or so.

The shuttles arrive and depart at the designated stops on ground transportation level, adjacent to the baggage claim areas of each of the terminals.

There are signs in the airport showing the way.

Off-airport rental car companies with permits have shuttles for their customers arriving and departing from the rental car terminal and not at the flight terminals.

Public Transport Buses – Express bus Route 142 operated by SacRT, Sacramento Regional Transit District, and Routes 42A and 42B operated by Yolobus, collectively offer transportation between the airport and downtown Sacramento, and the Yolobus routes also frequent other areas of Sacramento, with departures and arrivals approximately every 20-30 minutes from early morning to late evening 7 days a week.

TaxisOfficial Sacramento Airport taxi ranks are found outside the baggage claim areas of each terminal, on the ground transportation level. The taxi cabs are white with airport branding and are part of SITOA, Sacramento Independent Taxi Owners Association, which are contracted to provide both quantity and quality to their customers. The journey to downtown Sacramento takes around 20 minutes depending on the traffic and costs around $35-40 one-way. Private transfers to and from Sacramento Airport are also available.

App-Based Ride Share – Companies offering shared rides from the airport can be located on the ground level outside the baggage claim areas of the respective terminal. Services have to be organized in advance and through the company’s app or website.

Shuttles for Persons with Disabilities – There are two separate companies, Paratransit and MedStar, organizing shuttle transfer services to disabled customers.

ATMs at Sacramento Airport

There are a total of nine ATMs/cash machines located throughout the airport’s two flight terminals and the rental car terminal. Availability is both on landside and airside.

Currency Exchange at Sacramento Airport

There are no currency exchange services available at the airport.

Baggage Carts at Sacramento Airport

Baggage carts for rent, operated by Smarte Carte, can be found in the baggage claim area, in the parking garage and near terminal entrance doors. They can be paid with cash, debit or credit card and the fee is $5.00 per cart.

WiFi and internet at Sacramento Airport

The airport offers free WiFi throughout both terminals to all visitors and there are internet kiosks located in several places in the terminals. The free WiFi network is named “FlySacramento”.

Accessibility at Sacramento Airport

Sacramento County Airport System has the intent to provide accessibility to persons with disabilities and services such as TDD telephones, braille signs and visual paging can be found throughout both terminals. Smoking at Sacramento Airport

It is prohibited to smoke inside the airport, this includes electronic cigarettes, or anywhere within 25 ft./7.6 m from any doorway leading to an airport building.

Luggage Storage at Sacramento Airport

There is no luggage storage facility available at the airport.

Pet Relief Areas at Sacramento Airport

Terminal A – The Pet Relief Area for Terminal A is located outside the east end of the building, in the grassy area. To find it, exit the building and turn left and look for the signs.

Terminal B – There are two Pet Relief Areas adjacent to Terminal B, one on the south end of the terminal on the first level, in the grass patio area, and the other by the northeast corner of the Hourly Parking lot.

Opening Hours at Sacramento Airport

The public areas of the terminals are open 24/7 while the concourses close 30 minutes after the last flight has landed, which normally means sometimes between midnight and 1.00 AM.

The security checkpoints are open from 4.00 AM to 12.30 AM, daily, with flexibility depending on flight schedules.

Inter-terminal Connection at Sacramento Airport

Other than taking the shuttle it is possible to walk from one terminal to the other via the parking garage and sky bridges. This is probably the fastest option as it takes around 10 minutes.

From Terminal A to Terminal B – Go to Level 2 in Terminal A and cross a sky bridge to the parking garage and follow the signs for Terminal B and the designated walking path. Take the elevator at the back of the garage to Level 5 and cross a sky bridge to enter Level 3 in Terminal B. The APM, Automated People Mover, shuttle to the Terminal B concourse is right ahead.

From Terminal B to Terminal A – Go to Level 3 and to the right and cross the sky bridge to the parking garage, Level 5. From there take the elevator to Level 3, look for the designated walking path and the signs for Terminal A and cross the sky bridge to enter Terminal A, Level 2.

Connecting Flights at Sacramento Airport

If your connecting flight is in the other terminal than your arriving terminal please note that you will have to go through the TSA Security Control to enter airside in the connecting flight’s terminal of departure.

Nursing Rooms at Sacramento Airport

There are spacious rooms for breastfeeding mothers located near the gates, post-security, in both terminals. The rooms are equipped with a sink, a chair and electrical outlets for pumping.

Food and Beverage at Sacramento Airport

There are numerous places to eat and drink located on airside, post-security, in both terminals. On landside, pre-security, there is a Starbucks in Terminal A and there are several places to choose from in Terminal B.

Shopping at Sacramento Airport

There are only two places to do some shopping pre-security, on landside, and they are both located in Terminal B. One is Farm to Fork to Sky Market and the other is The Gallery at SMF featuring local artist Tim Collom.

There is plenty of shopping to be done post-security, on airside, though, in both terminals.
